Mallorca travel Guide

Mallorca is one of the largest of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a hugely popular tourist destination for people from around the world, but especially from Germany and the U.K. Apart from its pristine beaches and plentiful sunshine, Mallorca is home to historic sites and other delights. Accommodation is mostly available in Palma city, and hotels near the coastline are usually packed with tourists during the season. Two of the busiest beaches on the island are the Playa de Palma and the Badia d'Alcudia.

If the sun, sand and sea is all that you’re after, then Mallorca will spoil you throughout your vacation. However, if you venture out into the countryside or even to the city of Palma, you will find other attractions that are equally fulfilling. The seaside cathedral of La Seu is one of the prime spots to pay a visit. This 14th century structure that took three centuries to build is a wonder all its own. You may also want to visit the 700 year old royal residence called Almudaina Palace.

When you want to have some fun, there’s the Parc de la Mar, a tiered park that has some terrific views of the sea. In addition, there are museums and galleries to explore the history and art of the island. If your kids have had their fill of building sand castles, then take them to the unique Aquacity where they can enjoy thrilling slides and amusements. You can also visit Marineland to watch acrobatic dolphins and sea lions.

For those with an adventurous spirit, Mallorca offers its stunning network of more than 200 subterranean wonders. These are caves with awesome underground lakes, and some of the largest stalagmites and stalactites you’ve ever seen. Birdwatchers can have a great time spotting some rare wingers in the marshlands.

For the sports enthusiast, Mallorca offers a whole range of water sports, including surfing, water boarding and boating. If you prefer to swing your golf clubs instead, then there are some of the most scenic courses on the island. You can explore the island by foot, by bicycle, or by just driving around. If you have the time, you can even visit the nearby islands of Ibiza and Menorca.

The nearest airport is the Palma de Mallorca. You can rent vehicles from the car rental companies located at the airport itself. Apart from the well-known rental companies like Avis and Europa, there are others for the economy conscious traveller, such as Hasso and Pepecar.
